The Story
It’s early morning and the sun is rising at the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, Japan. The market is a hustle and bustle of restauranteurs, locals and tourists exploring all the wonderful seafood the market offers. But for the market vendors, this is a highly competitive environment where the quality and variety of their seafood is essential to winning over customers.
Sakana Stack is a fast-paced card game for 3-5 players. Take on the role of rival vendors at the prestigious Tsukiji Fish Market and showcase your selection of seafood by playing cards into a stack in front of you. To impress your customers and score points, you must match the value or type of seafood in the previous vendor’s stack. Variety will be key to becoming the most successful vendor!
Hand Painted Artwork
Design and theme are important elements in creating fun and uplifting games. For Sakana Stack, each card artwork was hand painted with love and inspired by Joss’s trip to the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, Japan.
How to play
Players take turns to play Stacks of cards from their hand in front of them, intending to have the most valuable Stack in play. Stacks of multiple cards may be played so long as they are of the same number. However, the first card you play must follow the suit or number of the previously played card. A dynamic scoring mechanic means you only score if the next player passes, so Stack value or suit scarcity are two key factors when deciding what to play. The round ends when a player sheds their hand or the draw pile is exhausted twice. Play over a number of rounds equal to the number of players to determine the most successful Market Vendor.

The decision to create a campaign on Kickstarter for Sakana Stack.
Sakana Stack will be the first game published by Huff No More. We have made the decision to run a crowdfunding campaign through Kickstarter and our campaign will launch in October 2024.
Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform which helps bring creative projects to life. It has been around since 2009 and successfully funded over 200,000 projects. The benefit for businesses to use Kickstarter is to build up a minimum level of project support before going into production and the benefit for backers is that if the campaign does not fund you get your money back.
